The APET test was designed to help match puppies with their owners. It consists of 23 test components and looks at 33 temperament traits. Among the components, it looks at assertiveness to people and dogs, biddability (Izzy was on the higher end), courage (Izzy was moderately high), energy level (Izzy was moderate), environmental focus, forgiveness, handshyness, pain threshold, self-confidence, stress type, three-dimensionality, learning speed (Izzy was fast), patience, problem solving style, resilience, sight and sound sensitivity, and people focus (moderately high). Tracy uses this test to help determine a compatible home for each of her puppies. The test can help look at what living situation is best for the puppy and what vocation is best. Tracy knew that we were looking for a puppy who could potentially be a therapy dog. She had already gotten a good idea of each puppy's personality from all the interactions she has had with the puppies up to the test, but the results help her make a final choice. She was actually considering a different puppy for us but when she did the APET, it was clear to her that Izzy (formerly Miss Pink) was a great match for us. Her other choice had a higher energy level and was a better match for a very active family who wanted a dog to go on hiking adventures with them. She made a great match! In the description of the APET test, the author writes "there Is no perfect puppy only a puppy that is perfect for you." Izzy is absolutely perfect for us! It's a bonus that she has a great temperament for a therapy dog.
