Park Experiences

Izzy had her final Parvo/Distemper vaccine on Wednesday. Soon we won't need to worry as much about her being exposed to either of those deadly viruses. We will do a titer at our next appointment to make sure she has built up antibodies. So, we were still careful when we took her to Alton Baker Park today. We spent time watching and listening to the ducks and geese. She was interested but watched calmly and got lots of treats. While we watched, she also got to experience bikes (both regular and electric) and scooters going by. We walked over the pedestrian bridge that goes over the Willamette River. We got to work on steps as we went up and then down. Izzy was confident and also very interested in watching the river. As we walked back towards the car, we stopped to watch some young men playing ball. She is definitely showing that she likes people. She looks at everyone we walk by like Emmi did and acts surprised when they don't want to stop and pet her. On the way home, we stopped by the dog park so she could see other adult dogs. I won't be taking her to a dog park to play as I worry too much about having a bad interaction with dogs we don't know but it is a great place to observe other dogs. There weren't any dogs playing in the park, but we got to walk by about 10 different dogs so that worked out well. Izzy just looks at the other dogs but is not fixated and doesn't stare which is perfect. The only time she tries to engage the dog is if it is another golden retriever. Wonder if she thinks it's a relative?
