New and Old Friends, Camping, Therapy Visits, and a Parade
I am so behind in posts so this one will cover a lot :)
The biggest news is that Izzy passed all 3 of her observed visits and I have submitted her application to Alliance of Therapy Dogs (ATD)! They have gone through a lot of staff changes and are playing catch up so I'm trying to be patient as we wait (could be 5 to 7 weeks).
Izzy made two new friends in the last month. Sam is looking for a home and is with Golden Bond Retriever Rescue. His foster sister is older and doesn't like to play so they contacted us to see if Izzy would like to help out. Izzy and Sam got along great. Last week we met a friend and her grand-dog, Luna for a walk on the bike path. It was so busy and Izzy handled it like a rockstar. It was her first time there so that alone was exciting but add to that a new dog, lots of geese, dogs, people, electric bikes and one wheels and it was crazy exciting. Izzy was curious and looked at everything but did not react to anything. I am amazed by her!
We got in lots of great pack walks with Maeve, Elisha and their people. I love our pack walks and so does Izzy. It is great for her to be with dogs that she socializes with in a different way other than play and it's great for me to be with other people who love dogs.
We went on another camping trip to the coast. Izzy had so much fun and is getting into the swing of camping. She is so good and didn't mind being in the x-pen we set up. She got lots of long beach walks and walks around the campground. We went into Old Town for lunch and she is such a joy to walk as she doesn't react or try to pull to other dogs or people. We had lunch out and she was so good and even took a nap! She got lots of pets in Old Town and enjoyed meeting people. One woman thanked her and said "your doing God's work" after we let her know she had just passed her Therapy Dog Test. There's some video of her in the compilation below enjoying the beach.
Last week we met Maya and her person, Barb at Wilco. Maya is a certified therapy dog, and we will be doing visits together, but up until now, Izzy and Maya have just been playmates. We wanted to have them practice working together before we are doing actual therapy visits. We walked them through Wilco and after some initial excitement and play bows, they both figured out we weren't there to play and settled down and did great. Afterwards, we met out at our place, and they got a much-deserved play session.
Today Izzy got to be part of the Walterville Parade and ride in the fire engine. Prior to the start we walked around and went past lots of horses, dogs and even goats (one in a tutu). The time spent introducing her to horses and goats when she was a puppy was well-spent. She was curious but calm around them. It was her first time in a fire engine. She was a bit nervous at first as you will see in the video below but after a few minutes was comfortable and even took a nap at the end. I think she enjoyed all the people waving. I'm thinking we will try a santa hat for the Christmas Parade.
