Izzy Loves Camping

We went camping last week to the same place we took Izzy for her first camping trip last year. What a difference! We were able to take her on long hikes and she had a blast and my arms are still in their sockets. Last year she was too young to walk very far and also did not know how to walk on a leash. This year she was fun to walk. She amazed me when we came to a steep downhill stretch. I have a bad knee and hate going downhill especially with lots of scree. While we have worked on walking by me, we were in a very exciting place. I told her "slow" and "with me" and that dog walked slowly by me the whole way down. She didn't go ahead of me once and waited for me as I found the best place to get traction. I think Izzy could have been a service dog.
She loved getting in the water. Last year she was not a fan of water. She was so good when we went out to eat. She just watched the people and dogs and stayed where I asked her to. She even had a little girl run by her and she just watched. Last year eating out was a challenge. We had a doe and her two older fawns visit every afternoon. They would come right into the campsite (people fed them). Izzy was able to sit and stay calm and only barked at them once. We walked by lots of dogs in the campground and had many walk by our site and Izzy calmly watched them. What a good girl! She had so much fun. After losing Emmi so young and knowing there are no guarantees, my promise to Izzy is to appreciate every day with her and make each day fun.
