Graduation

Not impressed with the graduation cap.
Not impressed with the graduation cap.

Izzy graduated from Pup 3/Teen Social Club! It was a great class for her. We focused on being calm and walking on a loose lead in exciting places. This is definitely where we need to continue to focus. We have a week off and then Izzy starts Dog 2.

Our focus for her:

  • Walking on a loose leash/not pulling. We will work on this with games and exercises we have learned. Starting in areas that she is used to like the house, yard and our daily walk and work up to other places that are more exciting.

  • Not jumping towards people/dogs. She just wants to meet everyone and everything. We'll work on leave it and calm greetings. She is actually lying down when greeting people she knows now which is amazing, but we really need to keep working on this especially with strangers.

She picks up on other things really quickly. She learned to step up in the car from the floorboard in 2 repetitions. She got the idea of stay after 2 sessions. So we'll focus on the loose leash walking, progress to heel (which we work on in short spurts at this time) and not jumping. There will be plenty of time to teach her more obedience commands and tricks once we achieve those.

I started this blog to share the journey of training my next therapy dog, Izzy. I'll be documenting our activities and experiences, aiming to inform and inspire fellow dog lovers on this rewarding journey. Because I'm passionate about all animals, there will also be posts about other animals, including my cats (Christopher, GrayC and Stitch). Thanks for joining us!
