A Life Touched

Emmi
Emmi

When I took Izzy over to the booth F.E.T.C.H. Therapy Dogs had at Bark in the Park, one of the people I had worked with at the Airport shared a story with me. A woman had come by not long before we got there. She wanted to let the teams there know about a therapy dog who had touched her life at the Airport. She said her plane had been delayed 5 hours and she was just having a really hard time when she was approached by a handler with a golden retriever. She said that golden retriever stayed with her for almost an hour and helped her so much during a very challenging time for her. She saved her card and was so thankful for how much that dog had helped her. It was Emmi. I remember her. I remember Emmi seeing her and pulling me to her. I remember thinking we should really be interacting with more people but there were two other teams with us and Emmi wanted to be with her, so we stayed with her for close to an hour. She asked if Emmi could help her get to the gate, so she leaned on Emmi and we walked her to the gate. Emmi had never helped someone with mobility issues, but she assisted her like she had been doing it for years. I was so touched that Emmi had made that big of a difference and helped someone so much that they would make an effort to let our group know several years later. Emmi had a real gift. What an amazing therapy dog. She really knew who needed her and she gave each person exactly what they needed.

I am so looking forward to being part of a therapy team with Izzy.

Dedicated to Emmi who challenged everything I thought I knew about dogs and who became the most amazing therapy dog ever.

I started this blog to share the journey of training my next therapy dog, Izzy. I'll be documenting our activities and experiences, aiming to inform and inspire fellow dog lovers on this rewarding journey. Because I'm passionate about all animals, there will also be posts about other animals, including my cats (Christopher, GrayC and Stitch). Thanks for joining us!
