Brain Exercises

Izzy solving a puzzle to get her breakfast.

Almost everything we do with Izzy is a training exercise. Breakfast is served in a puzzle toy. This lets her work on her problem-solving skills. We also incorporate waiting calmly before we put it down. Lunch is frozen and served in her crate. This way she has a positive association with her crate and working at getting the food out again exercises her brain. Dinner is served partly in a puzzle toy and also a special bowl she needs to lick to get her wet food. Licking also is a calming behavior. In the afternoon she also gets a frozen food toy in her crate. This girl runs to her kennel with enthusiasm. We are slowly building up to having her in the crate with the door closed so we will be able to leave her safely.

I love your stories on Izzy. I had no idea how much goes into this process.

I started this blog to share the journey of training my next therapy dog, Izzy. I'll be documenting our activities and experiences, aiming to inform and inspire fellow dog lovers on this rewarding journey. Because I'm passionate about all animals, there will also be posts about other animals, including my cats (Christopher, GrayC and Stitch). Thanks for joining us!
