An Unofficial Therapy Visit

My friend meets Izzy.
My friend meets Izzy.

I have a friend who is really ill and had to leave her home and cats to move into a Nursing Home/Rehabilitation Center. She won't be able to return home. I can only imagine how hard this is for her. I found out the the facility allowed people to bring dogs to visit so I decided a visit from Izzy might cheer her. My plan was to only let staff and my friend interact with Izzy as she is just a puppy and can get bitey. I was not sure how she would do with all the equipment, sights, sounds and smells at the faciltiy. I had her in her stroller to make it easier for her to focus on looking at things and meeting people and feel safe. Izzy did great! I My friend was so happy to see her. I think a puppy was just what the doctor ordered. Several other residents wanted to meet her and since she wasn't tired/bitey, I let them spend time with her. She did great with many different people and all kinds of wheelchairs, walkers, and medical equipment. She did great with the residents she met and made many staff members happy. She rocked this visit. I think she is a natural! Several staff members asked if I could please bring her back. I love this dog more every day. She is truly amazing.

I started this blog to share the journey of training my next therapy dog, Izzy. I'll be documenting our activities and experiences, aiming to inform and inspire fellow dog lovers on this rewarding journey. Because I'm passionate about all animals, there will also be posts about other animals, including my cats (Christopher, GrayC and Stitch). Thanks for joining us!
