Weekly Recap

Another one of my favorite photos of Izzy.
Another one of my favorite photos of Izzy.

It's been a busy week of training, play dates and daycare. Izzy had her second Teenage Social Club class. We met near the River Park in Eugene. We first walked the dogs to park. We rewarded them whenever they gave us attention on the walk. Izzy gets really excited so I was happy to get 4 check-ins. Once at the park we practiced training (when they were calm enough to respond to commands), reinforced calm behavior when they noticed people, bikes, other dogs, some loose leash work and working with them on objects and walking by the other dogs. It was a great session and really hard for Izzy. She is a teenager and is so interested in her environment now and not so much in us. This class is just what we needed. We practice each day for several short sessions. Today I got the feedback I really needed to hear. My friend that I hadn't walked with in 2 weeks commented that Izzy was walking really well and was so calm! Yay Izzy!

We had 3 play dates! Izzy played with Iylah, Juno and Runa. Our side yard was really muddy, so we moved out to our back field. It's about 2.5 acres and is fully fenced. We just have to check for wildlife first. Izzy is so fast and loves chase. She has become really good at taking some breaks on her own. She is so good at modifying her play to match the dog's style she is playing with. She is starting to once again check in with me, so I have a high value reward to give her each time she leaves her playmate to see me. I am very proud of her. She also had daycare on Friday and got to play at a private park. Her half-sister is in her group and they play nonstop. Small world! We got a walk in with a good friend and her dog as well this week. We met Iylah and her person at a sniff spot. They both enjoyed exploring a new area. The video below shows how much they enjoyed it.

I started this blog to share the journey of training my next therapy dog, Izzy. I'll be documenting our activities and experiences, aiming to inform and inspire fellow dog lovers on this rewarding journey. Because I'm passionate about all animals, there will also be posts about other animals, including my cats (Christopher, GrayC and Stitch). Thanks for joining us!
