Weekly Recap

Izzy is becoming a lap dog.

It was a quiet week for the first time in a long time. We had some beautiful weather so I was able to get Izzy out to play. She loves her giggle ball and her boomer ball and is proving to be quite a gymnast.

Our little gymnast.

Izzy had a vet visit on Wednesday and had to have a blood draw for her nomograph titer to check for protection for Distemper and Parvo. She did great. She had class on Thursday, and we worked on polite greetings. She still needs a lot of work on this area. Earlier she never jumped on people and now that is her go to behavior. Don't think we taught her that but who knows. Friday, she had a play date with Iylah and Winona (a sweet little corgi she met at puppy play group). I love how she modifies her play with Winona since Winona is smaller. I also love that she is becoming more and more receptive to signs from the other dogs when they need a break.

Saturday, we walked with a friend and her young dog at Doris Ranch Park. Lots of distractions including several really fast bicycle riders and other dogs. Many don't realize that socialization with other dogs doesn't always mean playing with them. It can be just being near them or seeing them or walking with them. While Izzy wanted to play with Juno, she did well when she understood she shouldn't be jumping on her. We definitely need to work on our loose leash walking though.

Sunday was really rainy. We got her out for a walk and ended up getting really wet but it was great as Izzy hasn't really walked in the rain. She was also startled by the umbrella Dave had so opening and closing the umbrella was a great activity. I stuffed a toilet paper roll with treats for an indoor activity and Dave then did a version of the shell game for her evening chew supplements. Her sense of smell has really developed, and she is able to sniff out which container it is under in no time. Dave might need a bit more training though lol.

Love to see this at the end of the day. My job is done.

I started this blog to share the journey of training my next therapy dog, Izzy. I'll be documenting our activities and experiences, aiming to inform and inspire fellow dog lovers on this rewarding journey. Because I'm passionate about all animals, there will also be posts about other animals, including my cats (Christopher, GrayC and Stitch). Thanks for joining us!
