The Cats are Coming Around

Who could not love this face?
Who could not love this face?

Izzy makes progress every day. I realized we hadn't worked on stay. After just 3 repetitions, she got it. Now we will work on distance and duration. We are also working on having her sit to get what she wants. I'm hoping to enlist some volunteers to help us practice this when greeting people. The biggest progress this week though is with the cats. I think the remodel of the area was a success. Both the gates have cat doors, and they can get up high and out with the shelf Dave put up. I think this makes them feel safer. Both cats are coming in and walking close to Izzy. Stitch starts to get scared if Izzy approaches him, but GrayC is now spending much of the day in the family room with Izzy. She hisses occasionally if Izzy gets too interested or playful but overall, they are getting along well! Izzy is doing so well staying calm with the cats and is easily redirected when she gets too excited. She will sit without me saying a word (I think she is learning that being calm and sitting will get her what she wants).

I got a cold this week and thought it would be a challenge with Izzy but it wasn't. She was so good. I think she knew I didn't feel good. Daycare on Tuesday (which she loves) was also a big help. This girl is so special.

The cats have lots of high spaces and ways to exit Izzy's area.

GrayC is deciding Izzy might be OK.

I started this blog to share the journey of training my next therapy dog, Izzy. I'll be documenting our activities and experiences, aiming to inform and inspire fellow dog lovers on this rewarding journey. Because I'm passionate about all animals, there will also be posts about other animals, including my cats (Christopher, GrayC and Stitch). Thanks for joining us!
