Izzy aka Sled Dog

Look at that face!
Look at that face!

We have definitely entered the teenage phase. Izzy is the smartest girl and has learned so much, but she seems to have forgotten most of it recently. She has also decided that she has aspirations to participate in the Iditarod. Walking her is a challenge especially in new places. The class we are taking is perfect and is working on the two areas we really need to focus on: loose leash walking and calm meetings. She also weighs 58 pounds now and has gotten too big for me to easily lift in and out of the car. To give you an idea of how smart she is, I was able to teach her to climb up to the floorboard (jumping directly up to the seat was tough with our layout) and then to the seat and into her crate in two repetitions! I was able to do the same with getting out. She is really incredible! Now, to transfer that to not pulling like a sled dog... Here's a video practicing one of the exercises we learned in our class:

I started this blog to share the journey of training my next therapy dog, Izzy. I'll be documenting our activities and experiences, aiming to inform and inspire fellow dog lovers on this rewarding journey. Because I'm passionate about all animals, there will also be posts about other animals, including my cats (Christopher, GrayC and Stitch). Thanks for joining us!
