Belated 6-month-old Photo Shoot

I can't believe Izzy is now over 6 months old! Puppyhood is flying by! Izzy is 50 pounds now! Her favorite thing is to play with her friends. Iylah, Runa, Winona and Maya are her besties. She loves daycare. Unfortunately, because we will not be spaying her for at least 2 years if at all, she can't participate now that she is 6 months but thankfully, she can do Adventure Club where she goes to a 4 acre fenced environment with a small group of dogs. She is doing great with the cats. She had a little set-back after our vacation but quickly stopped chasing them. Polite greetings are really improving. She occasionally forgets herself and starts to jump but often self-corrects and sits. We have started working on stay and shake and she's doing great with them. We need to challenge her with stay in environments other than the house. She is doing great with staying calm around deer. She only fusses a few minutes in her kennel before calming when we leave her. Recall suffered for some reason the last few weeks, but we are focusing on it again and she did great yesterday out in our field. Our goal for the next month is to really work on loose-leash walking and heeling. We need to do a lot of work on this especially in new and/or exciting situations. It looks like she will have a bit of a scar by her eye from her escapade crashing into our pumphouse Saturday (see Saturday's blog post) but we are thankful she is OK and it will just give her more character.

I started this blog to share the journey of training my next therapy dog, Izzy. I'll be documenting our activities and experiences, aiming to inform and inspire fellow dog lovers on this rewarding journey. Because I'm passionate about all animals, there will also be posts about other animals, including my cats (Christopher, GrayC and Stitch). Thanks for joining us!
